Ray
Harris Scholarship
In
the 1980’s, I met Ray and Judy
Harris at a Control Theory Workshop
in Los Angeles. I immediately
connected with Ray’s genuineness,
sense of humor and story-telling
ability. From that point forward we
were friends and colleagues. This
past May (2006), Ray passed away.
When I last spoke to him on the
phone, he was the same old positive
Ray, a little weak in the voice, but
determined to fight the cancer. His
last years were spent primarily as
Mayor of Cole Camp, MO, the town
where he grew up.
During his time with the Institute,
he served as the Nevada State
Representative to the West Region
Board, helped organize two Glasser
International Conventions and many
West Region Meetings. Ray was always
willing to pitch in with work and a
story or two. He had that rare
ability to always let you know what
he was thinking, but even if he
disagreed with you, he never came
across as critical.
Ray
worked with, helped and inspired so
many people in his career as a
helper. He worked in drug & alcohol
programs, employee assistance,
prison, probation and parole and
diversion programs. He just always
seemed to be able to walk into any
situation and deal with it calmly,
friendly and professionally.
I could write for hours about
Ray…Although many of you did not
know him, I hope you can relate to
the sorrow from the loss of a
special friend that can never be
replaced.
In
Ray's honor, I will offer a $400
Scholarship for every "open
Intensive Week" that I teach in the
West Region (AZ, CA, HI, NV, NM). The recipient
will be responsible for the other
$100.
The
scholarship is based on financial
need, a commitment to Choice Theory,
Reality Therapy and an
implementation plan to use what was
learned in the training.
